Nongstoin village releases constitution

 NONGSTOIN: The village popularly known as the ‘Model’ village of Nongstoin town, Mawkhlam Nongpyndeng on Saturday witnessed the remarkable event of the village constitution being released.

Phyllasingh Syiem, the Syiem of Nongstoin released it in the presence of Mcmillan Byrsat Lyngdoh of Nongstoin Syiemship and some others Sordar Shnong of the Adjoining areas, Esmilan Lyngdoh, Wesnald Lyngdoh, Sordar of Mawkawah, Bransly Rynshang and Michael Marwein, Sordar of Pyndengrei.

Tingwell Syiem, village secretary briefed the gathering that, the Village Durbar has its own Constitution since 1989 but in 2009 during the Annual General Durbar, a resolution was passed to review the Constitution and the matter was entrusted upon the Executive Durbar to work out the plan.

The Executive Durbar constituted the Drafting Committee to prepare the draft of the Constitutionwhich was sent to each and every locality for their suggestions, objections, views and comments. It received the approval from the Syiem of Nongstoin on the September 26, 2012.

During the function, Mcmillan Byrsat Lyngdoh of Nongstoin Syiemship stated that many acts and rules framed by the centre have to be examined carefully and expeditiously because sometimes it is like a threat to the indigenous populace of the State especially the customary practices prevailing within our area.

Phyllasigh Syiem, the Syiem of Nongstoin was the Chief Guest and he released the Constitution.

It is pertinent to mentioned here, that the Durbar Shnong Mawkhlam Nongpyndeng is the first village to have a written constitution in line with the Act and rules of the Hima. The constitution has been prepared as per the provision of the Rule 15 provided under the rule 2006 of the Nongstoin Syiemship.
