SHILLONG: Pressure is mounting on former Congress leader RG Lyngdoh to join the party after the recent meeting of the East Shillong Block Congress Committee with Lyngdoh.
Party sources said that a delegation of East Shillong Block Congress Committee met Lyngdoh at his residence on May 11 to convince him to join the party.
The sources said that Lyngdoh told the delegation that he would first concentrate on the affairs of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) as he was recently chosen as the Vice Chancellor.
The Block Congress had the support of both the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and MPCC president DD Lapang to meet Lyngdoh and convince him to join the party fold.
According to party sources, Lyngdoh assured the delegation that he would take a call on the demand of the Congress party as and when the situation arises.
The Block Congress decided to wait and watch to get a favourable feedback from Lyngdoh at the earliest as it considers that the
former Home Minister will emerge as a popular alternate to the present Shillong MP Vincent Pala during the Lok Sabha elections slated for 2014.
