TURA: The Killapara border monument which is will be inaugurated on Saturday has already begun drawing crowds of onlookers and local tourists who are keen to take a snapshot of the beautiful structure that is being compared by many to be in the line of international standard.

The construction of the monument at a cost of Rs. 9.90 lakh with additional funding for special illumination was envisaged by the BSF engineers led by B B Shome.

The participation of locals from Barengapara in making this monument has shown the close bonding between the force and the people of Garo Hills.

The monument was constructed by renowned contractor from Barengapara itself, Partho S Saha known to the locals as Kabloo and granite specialist Rupchand Khan with assistance from Boltoo Saha and his team.

“This work has been special for me because there is history behind it and I am very happy that there is also some contribution from my side for this memorial,” said Partho Saha.

The monument in all its glory will be witnessed during the night when the special illumination lights are lit up permanently.

“The special lights brought all the way from New Delhi will give illuminate the memorial every night,” said BSF engineer Shome.

The Killapara BSF memorial is in memory of nine personnel of the force who died fighting Pakistani troops during the 1971 war and prevented the enemy from taking control of the strategic Dalu-Tura road and facilitated the liberation of Bangladesh.
