SHILLONG, Sep 9: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly went digital from Friday with the implementation of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA).
Tabs or e-books were attached to the table of all the members on Friday to make it the first-ever paperless session.
Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh said the session will be conducted in paperless mode as far as possible to cut down on the use of paper. This is a digital era and data processing is faster with nearly zero errors, he added.
Citizens will now be able to access information about assembly proceedings and questions and replies from anywhere. MLAs would be able to submit or table documents in electronic form and questions in digital form.
The Speaker informed that MLAs would be familiarised with the new digital mode from time to time.
The mission of NeVA is to make the legislatures in all states/UTs paperless or digitised and to streamline all the processes for information exchange with the different state government departments and to publish the contents on the public portal as and when it happens.
It also aims to assist the legislators of states/UTs to use the latest information and communication technologies and participate in the legislative debates more effectively.
