SHILLONG, Sep 12: Meghalaya government is resolute in its stand in ensuring that the head office of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) is not shifted from Shillong to Guwahati.
Replying to a query by Mawsynram MLA HM Shangpliang, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Power department Prestone Tynsong said the question of shifting the NEEPCO office to Guwahati does not arise.
Tynsong, in response to another question, said that a branch office or transit office of NEEPCO has been constructed in Guwahati since it is an ideal place for monitoring projects in Arunachal Pradesh and other Northeastern states
“They do have that office but as far as the head office is concerned, there is no intention from higher authorities or NEEPCO management to shift the office from Shillong to Guwahati,” Tynsong said.
Earlier, Shangpliang said that office of NEEPCO’s executive directors of Operations and Maintenance, Contract Procurement, Project Monitoring and a section of IT Cell and Finance Wing have been shifted to Guwahati.
He added that the Managing Director (MD) sits in Guwahati and does not come to Shillong, while adding that many of the local employees of NEEPCO are unwilling to go to Guwahati and may even lose their jobs.
