Thailand looking to boost ties with M’laya, NE states

SHILLONG, Sep 22: Thailand is looking to extend cooperation to Meghalaya and other Northeastern states in different sectors such as tourism, fisheries and food processing.
The assertion by Ambassador of Thailand to India Pattarat Hongtong came after a joint delegation of representatives of the Thailand government visited Shillong on Wednesday and held an interactive session with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and private investors in Shillong.
The discussion dwelled on opportunities of bilateral trade between the two countries with special focus on the Northeast region.
Hongtong said that Thailand is looking forward to cooperation in tourism, fisheries and food processing sector with Meghalaya.
Stating that the private investors from Thailand are keen to enhance their relationship with the Northeastern states, including Meghalaya, Hongtong stressed on the need to better connectivity between the North East and Thailand to bolster trade and commerce.
She also said there is a huge opportunity where Thailand and NE states can work for the prosperity of the region.
During the programme, participants enquired about the sectors and resources suitable for investment.
During the meeting, discussions were also held on how to better road connectivity between North East India and Thailand for trade and commerce.
