SHILLONG, Sep 21: A 17-year-old teenager was apprehended on charges of killing an 80-year-old man by hitting him with a stick at Dienglieng village in East Khasi Hills on Tuesday evening.
A senior police official said the victim was first shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital but was referred to NEIGRIHMS where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
The police official said the juvenile had allegedly killed the man claiming that he was practicing witchcraft (Menaiksuid) due to which his mother was suffering.
The senior police official informed that the juvenile was apprehended on Wednesday morning and has been kept at the observation home for boys.
According to the police, the accused will be produced before the Board of Principal Magistrate (Juvenile Justice Board), Shillong after receiving his negative RT-PCR report.
