Child labour issues not handled well: NCPCR

 SHILLONG: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has expressed its dissatisfaction over the manner in which state Government is handling child labour in the State.

Addressing a press conference here in the city after meeting different NGOs over the issue of child labour in the State, NCPCR member Dr Yogesh Dube said that the commission has visited the State for the various issues regarding child labour.

Earlier in the day, the NCPCR delegation also met the Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to discuss about the child labour problem in the State.

“The Minister told us that she will take strong cognizance and develop a proper action plan to eliminate child labour in the State,” he told reporters.

According to Dube, the commission had also given certain recommendations to the State Government to make mining policy a child friendly policy besides directing Government to include certain clause and Central Government protocols and accordingly it was assured by the state Government.

The NCPCR delegation would have a detailed meeting with the State Government on Tuesday regarding child labour.

During their meeting with Civil societies, the issue of substance abuse wad discussed and deliberated.
