NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), central body has taken exception to the MUDA’s decision to fire two casual labourers at its Byrnihat office last year. Calling for immediate reinstatement of the two women, who were drawing Rs 2500 per month for their services, the RBYF said that failure to accede to the demand would force the Federation to lock down the MUDA office.

The RBYF also gave a month’s deadline to the MUDA to pay the pending salaries of the casual labourers since January, 2012.

The two women, Hundalin Warjri and Subita Lapang, had joined MUDA as casual employees in April, 2009 but were subsequently relieved of their services in January, 2012. Left with no option, the women approached the RBYF for help.

The Federation’s general secretary LK Sawkmie who met Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh in relation to the issue was reportedly told that the department does not have the funds to pay the labourers’ salaries.
