JOWAI: Not one, but all restaurants of Iawmusiang failed the food hygiene test when members of the Meghalaya People’s United Front (MUPF) along with the District Food Safety Officer and a magistrate conducted a surprise check of the kitchens on Tuesday.
A team of the MPUF led by its president, D Wanmi Laloo in the presence of a Magistrate F Basan and the District Food Safety Officer R Syiem inspected all the restaurants operating in Iawmusiang area and issued a 30-day deadline to the restaurants to ensure proper hygiene is maintained.
Two domestic LPG cylinders were also seized from Amity Restaurant during the inspection and the owner has been asked to appear before the Magistrate.
According to the MPUF president, Blue Heaven and Amity are the worst in terms of kitchen cleanliness.
“Some of these restaurants are also using spice and substances which have already crossed the expity date,” the MPUF president alleged.
