SHILLONG: The UDP is deeply perturbed by the unfolding sequence of events in the CMJ University affairs which has not only derailed the careers of hundreds of students.

“This has also tarnished the image of Meghalaya as a premier education hub of the country,” UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said in a statement issued here on Friday. He also said that the failure of the State police to nab the chancellor of the University, Chandra Mohan Jha has portrayed the Government in a very poor light.

Stating that there are speculations that the culprit enjoys political patronage and protection, Lyngdoh said that this is an impression we can ill afford to be casual about.

Lyngdoh said that it has come to the knowledge of the party during 2009-2010, the Government allotted a revenue plot with a house at Crinoline Swimming pool to Jha for reasons unexplained.

“It is imperative that such allotment should be withdrawn immediately and the property should be put to use for more constructive purposes,” he said.

The UDP president also urged the Government to initiate appropriate steps to come to the rescue of the affected students who were caught in a catch 22 situation for no fault of theirs.
