Ampati twin rape case

SHILLONG: The State Home Department on Friday submitted a status report to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) through Chief Secretary WMS Pariat on the alleged rape of two minor sisters by Sub Inspector Narul Islam at Ampati police station.

The report was prepared by Commissioner and Secretary (Home) J Lyngdoh.

The Commission during the recent meeting with DGP Prem Singh, Principal Secretary, Home, KS Kropha and Principal Secretary, Social Welfare, PW Ingty wanted Kropha to submit the report on the rape case within three days after the members of the Commission rejected the initial report of the DGP.

The report mentions several steps taken by the Government following the twin rape incidents.

The series of action taken by the Government include admission of the girls in schools, counseling and release of Rs 50,000 each to the victims.

A magistrate was also entrusted with the task of responding to the safety and security of the minors.

Besides the report prepared by Lyngdoh, the State Home Department had mooted a proposal to have an additional inquiry to be carried out by the Commissioner of Divisions, but this is yet to be approved by the Chief Secretary.
