PWD Min assures improved road connectivity

SHILLONG: The KSU South West Khasi Hills District, on Monday, decided to suspend their proposed two day office picketing after the PWD minister assured of repairing the road from Ranikor to Maheshkola.

A delegation of KSU on Monday met the PWD minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to discuss the bad condition of the roads in the district.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, KSU South West Khasi Hills district General Secretary Robertjune Khar Jahrin said that Dhar assured the delegation of providing immediate relief to improve the condition of the road.

Earlier, the group had threatened to hold a two-day office picketing on June 11 and 12 in three Community and Rural Development Block (Mawkyrwat, Ranikor and Mawsynram) if the Government failed to improve the condition of the road.

According to KSU, the minister has also assured that the he will pressurize the contractor of the road to go ahead with the construction work of the road in September after the monsoon season.

It was learnt that the minister would also take up the matter with the Chief Minister regarding the need to improve the condition of the road. In addition, the KSU has also asked the Government to improve and widen the Mawphlang-Balat road, Jakrem-Ranikor road, Ranikor-Maheshkhola road and others.
