SHILLONG, Oct 17: The High Court of Meghalaya on Monday directed the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council to confirm to the Court whether the two buildings — Moon View Café owned by Philosopher Iawphniaw and Ever Banalari, a restaurant-cum-guesthouse, owned by B Khongwar — had been constructed in accordance with the existing law or the norms in such regard.
The court was hearing a suo motu PIL on cleanliness of the Umiam Lake.
“It is hoped that the KHADC does not seek any further time and indicates its clear stand to the Court as to the legitimacy or otherwise of the two offending buildings,” the division bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice W Diengdoh said, while giving the Council two days to submit is response to the court.
The matter will be heard again on Thursday.
