SHILLONG, Oct 20: Pride of Shillong, the Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC) performed an exclusive show for the 90th General Assembly of the INTERPOL, which was their “biggest concert of this year” enthralling the crowd with their musical prowess and mastery.
With delegates from over 190 different countries, the 75 minute-show had to appeal to the wide variety of nationalities, languages and cultures.
The SCC, hence, performed in 10 different languages from across the globe — from a Swahili love song to a Chinese folk tune, an Arabic ballad to a French romantic, and from a Spanish salsa to an Italian foot tapper. At the peak of the performance, there were close to 60 performers onstage which included as many as 40 delightful musicians from the Shillong Chamber Orchestra conducted by George Hlawiczka to the wonderful dancers from The Dance Works choreographed by Shohini Dutta.
To top it all off, the show was warmly appreciated with a standing ovation from the audience. “That filled us with much gratitude and fulfilment, especially after the amount of hard work put in both by those on-stage and of course by our proficient off-stage team of sound, light and graphic engineers, costume designers, production and our management,” the choir said in a statement.
