SHILLONG: Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) TTC Marak stressed on the need to set up a bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in the State to handle cases related to environmental issues.

Despite coming up with its own mining policy, the State has not been able to enforce the same and Marak felt that without enforcement of the law, it is difficult to tackle issues concerning environment.

Addressing the workshop on NGT under the theme ‘Mining, People and Environmental Laws’ organised by the FKJGP at State Central Library here on Wednesday, Marak said that setting up of a bench of the NGT in Meghalaya will depend upon the number of cases that come to fore in the State.

“There is a need for the people to bring out cases related to environmental issues which will help the NGT to take the initiative of setting up its bench in the State,” he said.
