SHILLONG: The Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC), currently under a ceasefire agreement, has denied any role in the ‘disappearance’ of ANVC (B) chairman Rimpu Marak.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, Tangcha A Sangma, assistant publicity secretary of ANVC said there is no basis for the accusation leveled by ANVC (B) that one of its cadres Sasan Sangma had informed police about the movement of Rimpu Marak at Babupara on June 5 following which the chairman was detained and whisked away by the police.

The ANVC (B) had accused that Sasan Sangma’s vehicles were used in the operation against Rimpu Marak.

“We are not involved in this act and our cadre Sasan Sangma is not a police informer and he has nothing to do with Rimpu Marak’s disappearance,” Tangcha added.

“We don’t have any personal enmity with him (Rimpu) as well as with his organization ANVC (B). So, whatever accusations have been leveled against us by the ANVC (B) leaders have no basis,” he added.

Tangcha also said that the ANVC (B) chairman’s disappearance drama might be the outfit’s ‘new strategy’.

“The ANVC (B) cadres are trying to derail the peace process and we have been adhering to the ceasefire ground rules laid by the Government. Moreover, we are not undertaking any operations against any other organization.

“Our cadres and officers were busy with our own work and we don’t have time to act as informers,” he added.
