SHILLONG, Oct 27: The state government is likely to construct the Secretariat in New Shillong Township on a plot of land measuring 220 acres.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who inspected the land on Thursday, said the land was sufficient for construction of the Secretariat and it had the advantage being closer to Shillong.
The government has two options for the Secretariat project, the other being the land at Mawpdang.
“We are examining both to see which is going to be the better option for the people,” the CM said, while adding that the land has been divided and given to different departments and hence re-arrangement has to be done.
He pointed out that the land at Mawpdang could be used to shift other departments and administrative offices.
The CM also mentioned that some issues needed to be addressed after which the Cabinet will take a final cal in a few weeks.
It may be recalled that the state government is planning to shift the Secretariat and other offices to the New Shillong Township in an attempt to decongest the capital city.
