SHILLONG, Oct 29: Award-winning author Janice Pariat hosted a session at the British Library in London, United Kingdom, wherein she shared extracts from her highly acclaimed new novel Everything the Light Touches.
Janice was virtually joined in conversation by William Dalrymple, a Delhi-based Scottish historian, as well as a curator, photographer, broadcaster and critic.
“It has taken a few days for this to sink in — it really did happen! — and even now, it still feels a bit of a dream. I loved that we were in the open — joined by William Dalrymple from India on screen, with an audience full of loved ones, friends old and new and also passersby who drifted in, curious, and stayed on,” Pariat writes
“‘Gorgeous to hear the British Library echo with your words,’ a friend texted later — and truly it was special. Here, in the home of every book in the world, to read a passage from ETLT, to respond to William’s thoughtful questions, to engage with the lovely audience, to bring to light the long process of bringing this novel to life. And after, to sign books and have a chat with everyone who patiently stood in a queue outside the bookshop,” she adds.
She expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed — to the book, to the event, to people, present in real life and in spirit. “With all my heart, thank you,” she said.
