ANVC (B) wants to sign peace pact at the earliest

SHILLONG: ANVC (B) chairman Rimpu Marak, who went missing on June 5 only to surface on Thursday, has expressed his commitment to sign the final peace settlement at the earliest.

Doang Shira, publicity secretary of ANVC (B), in a statement issued on behalf of the chairman on Friday, said that the ANVC (B) leader was determined to sign the final settlement before anything goes wrong during the waiting process.

The ANVC (B) in a statement issued to a section of the press on Thursday had said that the outfit’s cadres had rescued Rimpu from Babupara in West Garo Hills. It also said he was on the way to Delhi.

“There is a foul game going on in the State which we feel needs to be checked by the Government. The attempt to trap the chairman is denied by all authorities and officers of the State which is either intentionally attempted by the Government or totally handled by the ground level officers without the knowledge of the higher authorities,” the ANVC (B) publicity secretary said.

According to him, the attempt to kidnap Rimpu has put a doubt on the Government’s intention by involving ANVC cadres for covert operation against the chairman.

“The chairman was lucky, but most of the ANVC (B) cadres are behind bars,” the statement added.

The publicity secretary said that the ANVC (B) will sign the final settlement even without any official suspension of operation with the Government.

“In spite of reminders, the State Government denied any knowledge and instruction to go for suspension of operation against the ANVC (B) which means that the police will continue its operations against cadres even after the final settlement, just as they did after the signing of the draft agreement,” the ANVC (B) publicity secretary said.
