SHILLONG, Nov 6: A much sought after tourist destination in the state, Sohra, along with tourists, attracts a large quantity of wastes. But the initiative of the Clean Sohra Campaign (CSC) to address this problem is finally taking shape with a Delhi-based company — the Royal Enfield (Eicher Group Foundation) — beginning the survey for construction of a scientific waste recovery and waste treatment plant.
The Royal Enfield Eicher Group is the company sponsoring the expenses as per the DPR prepared by the Swachh Bharat Gramin, Meghalaya, while the initiative was taken by the Clean Sohra Campaign along with the office of the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills.
Representatives from the Foundation conducted the survey along with the chairman of the Clean Sohra Campaign, Alan West Kharkongor, and officials of the Urban Affairs department.
