SHILLONG: GAD Minister HDR Lyngdoh has informed that the Government would soon take over the Kolkata Meghalaya House at Russel Street after payment of outstanding dues to the Asian Housing Corporation Limited (AHCL).
“I have issued a directive to take immediate steps for clearing of the outstanding dues to the firm,” Lyngdoh said after his recent visit to Meghalaya Houses in various cities in the country on Friday.
“We would like to give the commercial block of the Meghalaya House at Russel Street on lease immediately after we take over. The Government is expected to earn revenue from this commercial block,” the GAD Minister added.
He also directed that the work to connect the sewerage from the building to the main sewerage of Kolkata city should be completed at the earliest to enable the Government to inaugurate the newly constructed Meghalaya House.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh also informed that the Government has decided to come up with a new Meghalaya House in Guwahati and is also looking forward to constructing one in Bangalore.
“We would soon come up with a formal proposal to the Government for the construction of the new Meghalaya Houses both in Guwahati and Bangalore,” GAD Minister said while informing that the Government is also contemplating to construct another Meghalaya House at Vellore for the convenience of the people who go there for treatment.
Talking about the Meghalaya House in Guwahati Lyngdoh said, “After the inspection, we found that the rooms of the present Meghalaya House in Guwahati are too small to accommodate the VIPs. We would be constructing bigger rooms in the new Meghalaya House,” the GAD Minister said.
Meanwhile, the GAD Minister said that the Government is mulling the construction of a Meghalaya House in Bangalore taking into account the number of students from the State pursuing their studies in the South Indian city.
