SHILLONG, Nov 9: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is hopeful that the first round of meetings with the regional committees on the second phase of interstate boundary dispute solving process between Assam and Meghalaya can be held by November.
“I have had talks with Assam Chief Minister. In the next few days, there are some movements of central minister in the Northeast; in fact, quite a few of them. We have our programme NE Olympics starting tomorrow and so many other programmes but I am hopeful within this month we should be able to have the first round of meetings with all the regional committees present. Hopefully, we will be able to initiate the talks of the second phase,” the CM said.
He revealed that unofficially, plenty of work has started with different committees doing their homework and coordinating for the official talks.
Earlier, Meghalaya and Assam initiated the second phase of chief minister-level discussions to resolve border issues in the remaining six disputed sites, deciding to take a resolution route similar to the one adopted in case of the “less-complicated” interstate border sites.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had hosted his Meghalaya counterpart at the Assam Secretariat and decided to form regional committees headed by cabinet ministers for making site visits and holding consultations with the stakeholders and the residents in the six remaining disputed interstate border sites of Langpih, Block 1 and Block 2, Khanduli-Psiar, Nongwah Mawtamur, Borduar and Desh Doomreah.
