SHILLONG: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the KHADC on Wednesday has put on hold the delimitation of 17-Laitumkhrah-Malki constituency, a day after Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh shot off a letter to the council opposing delimitation proposal.
“The CEM had informed me that my constituency would not be affected by the delimitation and it will remain the same as it is,” Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh told reporters here on Wedensday.
Lyngdoh had shot off a letter to the CEM opposing the proposal of the council to delimit its constituencies adding that the council cannot carry out any fresh delimitation without consultation.
Earlier, it was mentioned that the 16-Nongthymmai and 17-Laitumkhrah-Malki constituencies would be subjected to fresh delimitation.
Reacting strongly to this move, Lyngdoh said, “It is unacceptable in terms of democratic norms as well as the mandated preconditions of the provisions of the Sixth Schedule to the constitution of India.”
