SHILLONG, Nov 28: The four pressure group members, who were arrested in connection with the violence during the public rally on October 28, were released on bail on Monday.
The four include two KSU members and two FKJGP members. They secured bail from the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate after spending 24 days behind bars. They were arrested from Mawlai and Jaiaw on November 4.
Confirming their release, FKJGP president Dundee C Khongsit said the four were released from the Shillong district jail in the evening.
A large crowd had gathered outside the district jail to greet the four pressure group members as they walked out of the gate.
Khongsit, meanwhile, said the federation will continue to pressure the state government on the need to come up with the State Employment Policy to address the problem of unemployment among the youth.
He also demanded that the state government should fill up all the 7,863 vacant posts in the various government departments.
The FKJGP president also asked the government to stop all backdoor appointments since it is preventing deserving youths from getting the jobs.
Meanwhile, he also suggested that the state government should take steps to create employment opportunities besides helping the youth to set up their own startups.
Stating that they have nothing to speak against the police for arresting their members, he advised the men in uniform not to add fuel to fire.
