SHILLONG, Dec 3: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday inaugurated Lumshnong C&RD Block in East Jaintia Hills, and expressed hope that the move will bring administration closer to the people.
Speaking during the inaugural programme, Conrad said that due to the absence of administrative units and other departmental offices, the area has been long neglected from the development point of view with people having to travel for hours to avail government services.
“We do not want the people to travel far distances, but rather we would want our team and officers and the government services to come closer to the people,” he said.
The chief minister also informed the gathering that the government, in the last four years, has been working tirelessly to ensure that there is all-round development in the state, to ensure that the administration gets closer to the people and to ensure that the voice of the people is heard.
The chief minister also touched upon various programmes and schemes undertaken under the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).
Speaking on E-Governance, Conrad said, “After competing with countries like China, Singapore and the United Kingdom, we were able to come out as one of the best projects for E-Governance in the entire globe, which was recognised by the United Nations.”
Speaking on the Sonapur-Borghat road, which is one of the most important roads for the people of the area, the chief minister said that the government has sanctioned more than Rs 120 crore for the construction of the same.
During his visit, Conrad also provided monetary support to various beneficiaries.
Later, the chief minister inaugurated and inspected the new Block Development Office at Lumshnong.
Others who were part of the inaugural programme include Commerce and Industries Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, local MLA Shitlang Pale, local MDC E Lamare, East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, district heads, community representatives, among others.
