SHILLONG, Dec 6: In a bid to address the manpower crisis, the state government has lifted the ban on recruitment of Border Wing Home Guards Battalion, Director General of Civil Defence and Home Guards Idashisha Nongrang informed on Tuesday.
Addressing a programme to celebrate the 60th Raising Day of Civil Defence and Home Guards in Central Training Institute (CTI), Mawdiangdiang, Nongrang revealed that the department is in the final stage of amending the subordinate service rules, which, she said, will enable filling up of 477 vacant posts in the department. Maintaining that doing so will go a long way in alleviating the problem of manpower shortage, she said the department will train 65 home guard volunteers and 330 civil defence volunteers in 2022-2023 across Meghalaya, thereby boosting employment opportunities for state youths.
She also informed that the department has deployed 1,295 trained home guard volunteers for different agencies.
Nongrang also appreciated the State Disaster Response Force’s work and its display of professionalism during trying times.
