TURA: A teenage girl was allegedly raped and murdered near Pedaldoba on the Assam side of the border on Monday. The body of the 18-year-old girl was found inside a rubber plantation where she had gone to tap rubber. She had been raped and strangulated, sources said.
The incident reportedly took place at Lemakona village under Rongsai police outpost of Assam which is approximately 6 kms away from Pedaldoba in Tikrikilla.
Authorities have ruled out any connection to the ongoing situation in Garo Hills and say the incident was isolated.
“To allay any doubts on the minds of the villagers, a peace meeting was held at Rongsai from both the Assam and Garo Hills side,” informed District SP of West Garo Hills Mukesh Kr Singh.
