SHILLONG: Undeterred by the loss in the last Assembly election, the State BJP unit has made it clear that the party would contest Lok Sabha elections from Shillong seat.

State BJP unit general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty on Saturday said that the State president of the party recently held discussions with BJP national leaders on the party’s plans to contest LokSabha elections from Shillong seat.

The party contested five seats in the last assembly elections but failed to win even a single seat.

However, the party has already started the ground work for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to take place next year.

According to Chakraborty, national leader and in charge of Meghalaya unit Kiren Rijiju would be visiting the State shortly to assess the ground situations while adding that the central Yuva Morcha leaders would also visit Shillong soon.

Reacting to a query about the party’s chances in the elections since party failed to manage even one seat in assembly elections, he said that the party is conducting organizational revamp to ensure that party performs well in the upcoming election.

“We are growing very strong as people are now fed up of UPA Government,” he added.
