Dacoits lynched in Garo Hills for extorting from pastor

 TURA: Two dacoits who had extorted money from the pastor of a church in Bajengdoba region was chased and beaten by an angry mob leading to their deaths on Saturday afternoon.

The two suspects, Millanton Sangma (20) and Petush Marak (22) had allegedly demanded money from the church elder of Mebari village in the name of a Garo militant outfit.

They went to the pastor and took away Rs 6500 using threats in the name of militants. While they were reportedly extorting from the pastor, villagers came out to defy them and several dozen men gave a hot chase to the duo who were soon caught at Harikona village and given a merciless beating.

Both suspects were brought badly beaten and in an unconscious state to Getapara village and handed over to the headman but before police could arrive on the scene they passed away. The bodies were later retrieved by North Garo Hills district police.
