NONGSTOIN: Following a meeting of the South West Khasi Hills District Price Monitoring Committee on Tuesday headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, R Iangrai, in presence of representatives from Mawkyrwat Traders’ Association (MTA), Mawkyrwat Area Transport Association (MATA) and NGOs, it was resolved that the Mawkyrwat Traders’ Association, after conducting a survey, would come up with a proposal of reasonable price of all essential commodities including bread and snacks which will be approved by the District Price Monitoring Committee.

The Meeting also decided that the approved price list of all essential commodities should be displayed in each and every shop situated in South West Khasi Hills district.

Further the meeting has decided that the price of all essential commodities in the district will be reviewed every fortnight or whenever necessary.

It may be mentioned that the price rise of essential commodities in the District has seen a spurt after a restriction was put on movement of heavy vehicles through the PWD Bridge over Umngi river carrying food and essential commodities.

All heavy vehicles now have to ply through Mairang-Kynshi via Pariong in order to reach Mawkyrwat.
