SHILLONG, Dec 30: With the Assembly elections in the state due in less than two months, a war of words seems to have started between two contenders for the West Shillong seat.
UDP working president and former MLA Paul Lyngdoh on Friday said he considers himself a winner in West Shillong constituency based on his strength and the 31 years of service he has rendered as a public leader.
Stating that the preparation for the 2023 Assembly polls is going on very well in his home turf, Lyngdoh said, “I have been in public life for the last 31 years. I have 31 years of experience as a public leader, three terms as a member of the Assembly and four times as a Cabinet minister.” “Now I am an executive member of the KHADC which for the first time has enhanced its powers by getting the authority to issue building permission in areas that were once under the control of the state government. With these strengths I consider myself a winner,” said Lyngdoh.
Not to be undone, sitting MLA Mohendro Rapsang asserted that he has done more work in the last 5 years than what was done in 15 years by his political rival.
Reacting to allegations that he has not done much for the constituency in the last 5 years, Rapsang said the question should be asked to the constituents and the Rangbah Shnongs.
“My record is that whatever developmental task was assigned by the Rangbah Shnongs, all those works have been 100% completed,” Rapsang said.
He added that he did not believe in ribbon cutting and stone laying shows because the money belongs to the government and the people.
