ECI reviews state’s poll preparedness

SHILLONG, Jan 12: A team of the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, visited Meghalaya on Thursday and reviewed the state’s preparedness for the Assembly elections, expected next month.
The ECI delegation was received by the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Frederick Roy Kharkongor at the Advanced Landing Ground in Upper Shillong.
As part of voter awareness, the ECI flagged off “Super 6” programme covering six categories – inclusive (senior citizens), accessible (PWDs), participative (women), ethical voting, transparent (EVM-VVPAT) and free & fair (youth).
The Commission released State KAP Baseline Report, Super 6 SVEEP brochure and the SVEEP music video “Vote for Sure”.
The ECI delegation held a meeting with representatives of National People’s Party, BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, People’s Democratic Front, Voice of the People Party and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement.
The representatives of United Democratic Party, Hill State People’s Democratic Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Republican Party of India (A), Garo National Council and North East India Development Party did not attend the meeting held at Vivanta.
Later, the CEC held a review meeting with the CEO, District Election Officers and Superintendents of Police and nodal officers of the police. (With UNI inputs)
