Annual ritual Sohjer held in Baridua

NONGPOH, Jan 19: Sohjer festival, which is an annual ritual of Raid Marwet held to express gratitude for the year’s harvest, is under way in Ri-Bhoi district.
The festival, under way at the playground of Baridua, will conclude on Friday. It began on Tuesday.
Several events such as football, Quiz, besides traditional dance and traditional singing were organised on the sidelines of the ritual.
It is worth mentioning here that the ritual could not be held in the past three years due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The ritual was led by the Syiem (or traditional head) of Raid Marwet, Pa’iem Ken Syiem, in presence of the Lyngdoh, the Myntri, the Longsan Mansan of Raid Marwet as well the Myntri and Basan of Hima Mylliem.
Besides them, Chancellor of USTM, Mahbubul Hoque, Jirang MLA, Sosthenes Sohtun, and the people of Raid Marwet were also part of the programme.
