SHILLONG, Jan 25: As poll battle heats up in the state, UDP candidate PT Sawkmie has turned up the heat too by kicking off his election campaign with a public rally on Wednesday.
The rally started from Mawlai Nongpdeng and proceeded towards Mawlai Nonglum, Mawlai Standbus and culminated at the football ground in Mawlai Mawroh.
Assembly Speaker and UDP president, Metbah Lyngdoh, also joined the rally at Mawlai Nonglum.
Addressing his supporters, Sawkmie asked them to give an opportunity to the regional party to lead the state in the upcoming polls. He went on to say that the people are not happy with the performance of the NPP-led MDA Government. However, the UDP is also a part of the MDA as a coalition partner.
“But the people must understand that it is a party who leads the government who take the decision,” he explained.
Sawkmie told the gathering that he decided to join the UDP because he sees a brighter future in the party.
