Tura, Jan 31: Sitting Bajengdoba MLA of the NPP, Pongseng Marak on Tuesday exuded confidence that the party would get a single majority in the upcoming elections and for the government even as he asserted that the winning margin would be even greater that of 2018 in Bajengdoba.
“NPP will surely win in Bajengdoba and the winning margin will be even greater than that of 2018. Not only in Bajengdoba but we are working hard in all areas and are confident that we will get a single majority and form the next government,” he said, while giving a video statement.
The sitting MLA said that if re-elected, his main focus would be to look into various issues under the constituency which were unable to be attended to during the last five years.
“The youth are facing problems regarding their education due to lack of colleges. So far, students from the constituency have to depend on Mendipathar College and they are facing numerous problems with regard to travel and other expenses. If I am to be re-elected, my first priority would be the setting up of a college in Bajengdoba,” he said.
Marak added that although fifteen new roads were constructed under the constituency during the last five years more needs to be built which he promised to look into if returned to power.
He said that they were able to serve the people to their full capacity only for three years of their tenure, due to the Covid-19 lockdown but added that significant development had taken place during that time with the help of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
“We were able to restore abandoned schools and construct new buildings in their places in various areas. We were also able to build stadiums enabling the youth to have a platform in sports. Damaged sub-centres under the constituency were also restored at several places with the construction of new buildings,” Marak claimed.
On the prospects of other parties, the sitting MLA said that as per the NPP’s observation the strength of both the TMC and the Congress were on the same level and that they were not looking down on anyone.
