Guwahati, Feb 3: In a move towards creation of a citizen-centric police force, all district SP (superintendent of police) offices in Assam as well as the state police headquarters here will ensure that an officer interacts with citizens for two hours every working day to ensure grievance redressal from February 13, 2023.

This was decided in a meeting attended by all officers of the Assam Police (from the rank of SP to the DGP) and held in both physical and virtual mode on Thursday.

Accordingly, an officer will be available in all district SP offices and the Assam Police headquarters from 11.30am to 1.30 pm every working day to interact with the people from February 13.

It was decided in the meeting that all SPs will put in place a system to ensure that all the personnel working in their jurisdiction get a weekly off mandatorily, except during emergencies.

“This, however, will not apply to those holding charge posts, including ICs and OCs of outposts and police stations,” an official statement said.

Besides, all districts, battalions and organisations, including the Assam Police headquarters, will ensure that pending pension cases were cleared within the next two months, and henceforth, preparation of pension papers for retiring personnel would begin at least a year before their date of superannuation.

It was further decided in the meeting that separate toilet facilities would be provided for all women personnel in all districts, battalions and organisations of the Assam Police.

Moreover, it was decided that the name plates of all personnel would have to be in the local language or bilingual so as to ensure better visibility among people.

During the meeting, Assam director general of police G.P Singh exhorted all officers and personnel to ensure correct and polite behaviour with the people they serve.

Singh also asked them to give due respect and ensure the dignity of their colleagues across ranks, take care of their own health so that they remain fit to ensure better service delivery, and maintain the highest level of professional and personal discipline, across all ranks.
