Spurned by BJP Francis Pondit R Sangma contests poll as Independent

Nongstoin, Feb 6: : Former MLA of Mawthengkut  Francis Pondit R Sangma , who was aspiring for a BJP ,  has decided to contest the election as Independent candidate from 33-Rambrai Jyrngam Constituency.

Francis Pondit R Sangma today filed his nomination before the Returning Officer of Rambrai Jyrngam Constituency as an Independent Candidate.

Pondit said that he was one of the aspirants and had approached the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Unit from Shillong but he was denied the ticket to contest from Rambrai.

He said that after he made an assessment and discussed with his supporters, Francis Pondit R Sangma has decided to file his nomination to contest in the upcoming poll.

He also blamed the BJP leaders from Shillong for not consulting the grassroots leaders before giving  the ticket since Spartarlin Nongrem has  no popularity in the constituency, while he claimed that all the leaders especially from Garo community was well aware about his work and contribution towards the community.

“I am 100 per cent sure that I will win this Election from Rambrai Jyrngam constituency since i has got the support from the people of this particular constituency which includes the people of Rambrai area, Rimuliang area, Mallangkona area and also those who stayed in border area” said Pondit, while added that he is deeply concerned about the lack of developmental in Rambrai area.

Pondit also hoped that Garo voters of Rambrai- Jyrngam Constituency in West Khasi Hills district would play a decisive role in the up-coming election where more than 14000 Garo voters will cast their votes in the 2023 election.
