SHILLONG, Feb 13: NPP’s Mawlai candidate Teiborlang Pathaw on Monday submitted a court order to the Returning Officer (RO), informing that he has been cleared of all charges in connection with certain error in the office work related to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF).
“After several hearings, the High Court of Meghalaya gave its verdict on February 10. Now, there is no more case against me and the matter has been disposed of,” Pathaw told reporters after submitting the court order on Monday.
Clarifying that the error was rectified in 2018, the NPP candidate said the court had to decide whether the allegation was true or not.
He said he had to inform the RO of this court order since as per the norms of the Election Commission of India, he had to declare his pending criminal case in his election affidavit.
The CBI had earlier registered a case against him and two NEIGRIHMS officials for their alleged collusion in defrauding payment of EPF.
In his affidavit, Pathaw had declared a pending criminal case against him at CBI Oakland. It was registered under IPC Sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust).
