SHILLONG, Feb 14: The BSF nabbed three persons along with a vehicle carrying 1600 kg of sugar meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh through the international border in West Jaintia Hills on Monday.
The vehicle was en route to Muktapur border area when it was intercepted by alert BSF troopers.
During preliminary inquiry, all three who were apprehended revealed that they are residents of Amlarem from where they had loaded sugar onto the vehicle.
BSF Meghalaya has seized more than two lakh kilograms of sugar since last year. Such attempts of sugar smuggling have been attributed to higher prices of the essential commodity in Bangladesh.
