TURA, Feb 18: Shahjahan Islam, one of the people named by the police in an FIR pertaining to an assault case, has claimed that he was not even the scene when the entire episode took place and sought the removal of his name from the FIR.
As per the complaint, on February 15 at 8:17 pm, police received information that some TMC workers, led by Sofiqul Islam alias Bhutto, had allegedly assaulted some NPP workers.
When a police team rushed to the spot, they found two injured persons who claimed that they had been assaulted by Sofiqul.
In the FIR, Shahjahan was also named.
However, Shahjahan refuted the charges, stating that he was at the Phulbari Police Station around 7:35 pm to mark his attendance relating to another case, following which he went to Phulbari and stayed there till around 11 pm.
“There is video evidence of my presence in the police station’s CCTV. Someone has given my name intentionally in an effort to hurt my sentiments. I am shocked and wish for a complete investigation into the matter and why I was named despite me being elsewhere,” said Shahjahan.
