SHILLONG, Feb 24: With less than 24 hours left for the enforcement of the silence period in poll-bound Meghalaya, political parties and their candidates were on Friday seen concluding their campaigns.
During the day, several candidates, including BJP’s North Shillong candidate M Kharkrang, NPP’s East Shillong candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh and West Shillong candidate Mohendro Rapsang, held their last election meetings.
Addressing one such meeting at Jail Road, Kharkrang cast aspersions on the Congress, claiming that the grand old party not only started corruption in India but also institutionalised the same.
He also accused the Congress of disallowing Don Bosco from establishing a university in Meghalaya.
The BJP candidate also stated that he stands for all communities irrespective of caste, creed and community.
BJP national general secretary Rituraj Sinha, who also attended the meeting in support of the party candidate, asserted that the next chief minister of Meghalaya will be from the BJP.
Rapsang also held a meeting on Friday, during which he promised to bring more development in the constituency.
He asserted that he has tried his best to serve the people.
Ampareen, too, held a meeting at Laitumkhrah Police point on Friday, exuding confidence that people of her constituency will once again repose their faith in her.
