Programme on ‘Safe Secure Shillong’

 SHILLONG: In continuation with the ‘Safe Secure Shillong’ Project, East Khasi Hills District Police in collaboration with Seng Khasi College, Shillong organised a programme on Friday at Seng Khasi College Hall.

Speaking on the occasion, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (Traffic) NK Syiem gave a presentation on Traffic Rules and Regulation and on the need to abide by such rules. Awareness among the student community of safe driving/riding and driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs was highlighted.

SP (Crime) Vivek Syiem gave an account of rising rate of narcotic drugs related cases and its peddling in the city via Myanmar and neighbouring states.

He gave a brief description of various forms of drugs and its consumption, the harmful effects it would have on the student community and the society and its stringent legal implications.

On the occasion, Dr. (Mrs) S Khonglah, SDM & HO, Police Unit Hospital, Shillong highlighted the ill effects of “chewing of tobacco, smoking, consumption of alcohol and drugs” on the physical and mental health of human beings particularly teens.

East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang who also spoke on the occasion urged the students to abide by the law and to refrain from the use of drugs.
