SHILLONG, Feb 27: NPP candidate from West Shillong, Mohendro Rapsang has alleged a bid to buy votes in the constituency on the eve of voting day without particularly naming a person or party.
Talking to media persons after casting his vote, Rapsang said that such an attempt is in vain and that it would not translate into votes, while recalling the work as well as programmes completed by him in the last 5 years or so.
“Some of the other parties distributed money just one day ahead of the election but I have been working since the last 5 years. They want to buy votes but it will not materialise,” he said while claiming to have the support of the people.
According to Rapsang, the NPP will win at least 31 seats.
UDP’s candidate for West Shillong seat, Paul Lyngdoh, on the other hand, is confident of a landslide victory even as he said the UDP should cross 20-seat margin.
Talking about corruption, Lyngdoh said this issue has proved to be a bane for Meghalaya in the last 5 years, while adding that the polls now give the state a chance at redemption.
Taking a jibe at opponents, the UDP candidate said that every election has its own peculiar characteristics but this time, the only strategy used by other camps is money. The people have seen how the vote-for-money policy results in disaster and they are more careful this time, he added.
