TURA: Garo Hills will soon have its own illustrative and informative Tea Table Book which will be authored by renowned Economist and Consultant for various prestigious institutions and International bodies, Dr Bivek Debroy.
Author of such books as India: Redeeming the Economic Pledge and Judicial Reforms in India: Issues and Aspects among scores of others, Dr Debroy is an Indian Economist who has held prominent posts in various prestigious institutions like the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Contemporary Studies and PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Dr Debroy has also been a Consultant to the Department of Economic Affairs of the Finance Ministry.
The one of a kind Tea Table Book will fundamentally be a book on the economic developments of the region.
Informing this at a district-level meeting with heads of line departments at the Tura DRDA Hall on Monday, Dr Debroy expressed his gratitude for the enthusiastic welcome accorded to him in the district. He informed that the Meghalaya Government was keen on having its own unique Tea Table Book and stated that he looked forward to the interaction with the officers, social workers, intellectuals, community leaders, stake holders and luminaries involved in social service.
The meeting was chaired by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi during which the respective heads of line departments elaborated on various developmental activities and success stories of their respective departments.
Dr Debroy is on a six-day visit to Garo Hills to gather information on the history, culture, economic activities and other aspects of life in the region.
During the course of his stay in Garo Hills he will be visiting various places of interests including Wadagokgre Archaeological site, Samgong Horti Hub and the Kalaichar Border Haat to witness the volume, potential and scale of international trade between India and Bangladesh.
