Decapitation case: Other body parts recovered; victim identified
NONGPOH, March 9: Two days after the spine-chilling murder of a man, whose severed head was found on the banks of Umiam Lake, came to light, the remaining parts of the body were on Wednesday recovered from the bank of the lake. Incidentally, while one of the arms of the victim was found afloat the lake, the rest of the body was unearthed. The victim, who has been identified as Omeka Myrthong, was reportedly a cabbie who would ferry passengers from Nongpoh to Shillong. Myrthong, who is survived by his five children, hailed from Mawlaingut, East Khasi Hills. Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, a team of the Crime Unit from Shillong and Ri-Bhoi Police took custody of the body parts and, following an investigation at the crime scene, sent the same to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for autopsy and then to Shillong for further examination. The family members of the victim and locals of Mawlaingut village were also present at the scene. According to Saindur Nongbsap, village secretary of Mawlaingut, Myrthong had gone missing since February 26 and ever since then, the family members as well as the villagers had been searching for him since but to no avail. He also informed that Myrthong was cordial and cooperative towards everyone in the village. Meanwhile, the village leaders of Mawlaingut have condemned the incident and have urged the police to bring the culprit(s) to book.

Another suspected murder
NONGPOH, March 9: In yet another case of alleged homicide in Ri-Bhoi, a body of a man was on Thursday evening recovered from his agricultural field located near the football ground of 20 Mer Pahammawlein village. Incidentally, the 70-year-old victim, who has been identified as Elius Ryndong, had cuts on his head. According to the family, Ryndong had left home at 7 am for his regular agricultural chores at his field. However, the family members found out about the incident at around 5:30 pm when Ryndong did not return home. Police have, meanwhile, brought the body to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem and, at the same time, initiated an investigation into the case.
