SHILLONG, March 11: MPCC president Vincent H Pala on Saturday said that he is unaware about any move within the State Congress to remove him from the post of the president of the grand-old party.
“May be there is move by some of the party leaders to install a new party chief in Meghalaya. But nothing has come to my knowledge about such a move,” Pala told The Shillong Times here on Saturday.
Earlier, there were reports that the Congress high command may soon take a final call on the “tenure” of Pala’s presidentship of the MPCC following the poll debacle.
It may be mentioned that the MPCC chief was defeated by NPP candidate, Santa Mary Shylla from Sutnga-Saipung seat.
The Congress, which had a golden past, is now struggling for its very existence while the saffron outfit is still faced with the same challenge — acceptability in Meghalaya.
“At times in such cases the Pradesh Congress chiefs resign. There is no hard and fast rule. Decisions are taken ultimately at political levels in various stages,” Congress source said.
The Congress, this time round, could manage to win only five seats as compared to 2018 where they had won 21 seats.
Significantly, regional parties like UDP and VPP also came out with flying colours. The UDP won 11 and VPP four. Two other regional parties — HSPDP and PDF — picked up two seats each.
This perhaps means tough battles are on the cards for the Congress in Meghalaya.
