NGOs adamant on ILP demand, seek public support in Jowai

 JOWAI: A group of NGOs comprising the KSU, FKJGP, HNYF, CSWO, KWAADA, SSSS, RBYF, JSU, JYF, SSSS and AJYWO held a public meeting at Iawmusiang, Jowai on Monday highlighting the importance of the Inner Line Permit system.

The NGOs also demanded immediate implementation of the ILP to safeguard the interest of the tribal people in the State.

The meeting on Monday was a part of a series of such meeting that are being organised by the NGOs in various parts of the State to make the general public aware of the importance of the implementation of the ILP in Meghalaya.

“We are holding the last public meeting in Shillong before we resort to agitational programmes across the State,” AJYWO president MH Dkhar said.

“The Inner Line Permit if implemented in the State will help secure the future of the tribal people and also help to control influx,” HNYF president GH Kharshanlor said.

FKJGP president Joe Marwein informed that the ILP will not affect any trade run by local people but it will only restricts the entry of outsiders.

The NGOs also requested the villagers to extent their support in case they (NGOs) are forced to call for any kind of agitation programme to pressure the State Government to fulfill their demand of implementing the ILP.
