SHILLONG: The High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC), probing alleged irregularities in appointment of assistant teachers in the Government-run Lower Primary Schools, has submitted its report to the State government.

Informing this here on Monday, sources said that the three-member committee headed by EP Kharbhih submitted the report to PS Thangkhiew, Principal Secretary, Education Department.

Earlier, it was reported that the committee would submit its report to Deputy Chief Minister (in-charge Education) Prof Roytre C Laloo.

But the report was submitted to Thangkhiew since the committee was constituted as per a court directive, sources said adding that the report would have been submitted to the Minister had it been a Government-constituted committee.

The report would be submitted to the court in the next few days, sources said while refusing to divulge the details of the report claiming that “it is now court’s property.”

After the CBI had unearthed irregularities, the Government had sought to constitute the HLSC to scrutinize the matter further.

Responding to a petition filed by the Government, the Court, in August last year, had asked the Education department to constitute a committee with a deadline of six months to look into the alleged tampering of mark sheets.

Earlier in May, the High Court had given the committee an extension of two months to complete the probe.
