Election to Sohiong seat on May 1, says EC

NEW DELHI, March 29: The Election Commission has announced polls to the Sohiong assembly constituency in East Khasi Hills on May 10 and announcement of the results three day after.
The seat fell vacant following the sudden death of former Minister HDR Lyngdoh during the campaigning period. This time, he was contesting from UDP.
HDR Lyngdoh, died in hospital after cardiac arrest.
Model code of conduct will be applicable in that constituency immediately.
Notification for the polls will be issued on April 13 and till April 20 candidates can file nominations. Scrutiny will take place a day after and April 24 is the last date of withdrawal.
Advisories issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from time to time will be followed during the polls.
